Sports massage — Marta C., Elizabeth NJ

Why your body needs it

Training pushes muscles to the limit: tiny tears form in the fibers, tension builds and knots, trigger points and adhesions appear. Left alone, the muscle loses flexibility, performs worse and the risk of injury goes up.

Sports massage works on exactly those tension patterns. It uses more pressure than a relaxation massage — kneading, friction, trigger-point pressure and stretching — and focuses on the muscles your sport uses most: legs for runners, shoulders and back for swimmers.

Whether you are preparing for a race in New Jersey or training for your health, we adapt the session to where you are in your season.

The three types of sports massage

  1. 01Event · beforeShort and stimulating, to activate the muscles and get them ready to compete.
  2. 02Event · afterGentler, to relax, ease muscle soreness and speed up recovery. Also between events.
  3. 03MaintenanceThe regular in-season massage: it works on your tension patterns before they become an injury.
  4. 04RehabilitationSupports recovery from a muscle injury, coordinated with your doctor or physical therapist when it is serious.

When it’s best to wait

There are times when it is better to postpone a session or get your doctor’s approval first. It is not a “no” forever: it is taking good care of you. We go over all of this together at your first assessment.

Not sure about your case?

Message us before booking. We listen, review your history and, if needed, wait together for your doctor’s approval.

Ask on WhatsApp
  • An injury from the last few hours

After a tear, sprain or hard hit, the first days are for ice, rest and a medical check. After that, massage helps recovery a lot.

  • A suspected fracture

If the pain is pinpointed on the bone or you cannot bear weight, get an X-ray first.

  • Inflammation with heat and redness

It is a sign the tissue is in an acute phase. We wait for it to settle.

  • Thrombosis, wounds, fever or infection

In any of these cases we postpone the session until your doctor says so.

Frequent questions

Is sports massage stronger than a regular massage?

It usually has more pressure, but it always adapts to you and the moment — before a competition, for example, it is lighter.

Do I have to be a professional athlete?

No. It is for anyone who is active.

Can I train afterwards?

It depends on the type: a pre-event massage is designed for competing afterwards; after an intense maintenance session, give your body some rest.
